BIO OF ANITA BLOOM ORNOFF:
Anita Bloom was born in Patterson, NJ on May 30, 1921 and grew up in Suffern, NY. Her mother and
father owned a children's clothing store during her early years, which allowed her the freedom to get into mischief
along with her "adopted" brother, Joey. Teenage years were spent competing with boys in tennis and swimming, but her
greatest love was dancing. At age 21, a dramatic event forever changed her life.
In 1970 she graduated from Loyola College in Baltimore, MD with a degree in Psychology and went on to become a mental
health technician. It was during those working years that she came to meet so many people who learned of my ordeal in
the Women's Auxiliary Army Corp (WAAC). They prevailed upon her to write her story for others to be inspired fby her
courage and ability to survive. Thus was born Beyond Dancing: A Veteran's Struggle - A Woman's Triumph.
